What is Culinary Medicine?
Culinary medicine is an evidence-based field in medicine that blends the art of food and cooking with the science of medicine. (La Puma et al., 2008) Culinary medicine is aimed at helping people reach good personal medical decisions about accessing and eating high-quality meals that help prevent and treat disease and restore well-being.
Students enrolled in HHP:3820 Community Wellness Practicum: Culinary Medicine receive hands on training on the fundamentals of culinary medicine to improve personal health and to learn how to effectively counsel clients, patients, and community groups on diet and nutrition. The emphasis of this course is on using fundamental culinary skills for the basic preparation of healthy and delicious whole foods.
