Dehydration can be defined as a 1% or greater loss of body mass due to fluid loss or lack of fluid intake. Some common symptoms of dehydration include:
-
Tiredness or Weakness
-
Dizziness or headaches
-
Confusion/delirium
-
Low blood pressure
-
Dark-colored urine
-
Decreased physical performance during exercise
-
Dry, thin skin
If you are unsure if you’re dehydrated, check in with your thirst levels and the color of your urine. A good indicator of proper hydration is clear or light-colored urine and a lack of thirst. If your urine is dark-colored or you feel thirsty, you should consider drinking more water. Even just drinking 8-16oz or 1-2 cups of water can improve your hydration level.
