The Rate of Perceived Exertion can be used to measure how hard an individual is working. The RPE scale ranges from 0-10, corresponding to the intensity of exercise.

Light activity level: ranges between 2-3.

Moderate activity level: ranges between 4-6.

Vigorous intensity level: ranges between 7-8.

The Talk Test is the simplest and most accurate way to determine the intensity of how hard your heart is working.

Beginner activity level: You're able to exercise while engaging in conversation.

Moderate activity level: You're able to talk, but not sing, during exercise.

Vigorous activity level: You're unable to talk during exercise without pausing for a breath.
